Lloyd Mat: stinky
Greetings, It has been a long time since I posted (but I read often). I've just bought some new black rubber car mats from Lloyds (yes Susan they finally arrived) but they smell like they just came off the press yesterday... wooww.... they just ooze fresh rubber smell.... got any suggestion to 'de-smell' the mats.. I'm sure soaking them in tomato juice won't work... thanks. Bruce.

Three Wheelin'
Gosh, I did a search and came up with the weirdest things. Most unmentionable. Rubber mallets for tent stakes in a guys car; Sex toys (ugh); Someone who loves the smell of rubber; Burning rubber. But no way, other than some obscure surface coating, to eliminate the smell. I believe the consensus was that the smell fades quickly. My advice would be to leave them in air, outside, for a short period. Having said that, my '79 928 STILL has that new car smell. I don't get it. You could be in for a ride. Keep some clothes pins handy for your nose, ha ha. Best of luck.

Lloyd sent us a free sample and one of the reasons we are not selling them is because of the smell. Even after months of sittng in the stock room they still had that odor.

Hi. Thanks for the input. I have a friend who is a Chemistry Professor so I see if he has any suggestions. I think I'll write Lloyds too. I'll keep you posted on any solution I find..

Lloyd Mats: Stinky Update
Well I got a response from my Chemistry Professor friend: "air them in the sun". not very scientific for a world reknown Chemistry Professor.
I did get a speed reply from a Marvin Rios at Lloyd Mats (marvin@lloydmats.com):
"You can use regular rubbing alcohol on them to speed the process, but the odor should disappear after some time. If this does not happen, please contact us again."
So I'll try this solution this week and give you another 'smell test update' later.
Bruce.
