Default Change those heater valve hoses!

I'm not sure why I change every other hose but this little guy. I had the hose sitting in a drawer. ????

Maybe cause it was to easy, so I just kept saying "I will do that later, its easy".

Well I decided to change it last night and it was 90% cracked. Just a thin internal layer left at the crack. It looked original.

So the moral of the story is change them sooner than later, as per the FAQ's.

I was lucky to not have it split open while on the road.

FWIW the HCV is the weak link in the cooling system.
It is wise to replace the HCV and short hose everytime the timing belt is replaced,
or every other time the coolant is replaced.

NOTE if you replace the heater control valve then you should replace the short hose as well.

Good catch. You saved yourself a lonely time on the side of a road somewhere. The moral of the story is never base your opinion on the condition of a rubber hose in an engine just by looking at it. My fuel lines "looked" excellent then when I removed them they cracked like crazy and pretty much disintegrated in my hands.

Yup, they cut me a piece at autozone and didn't charge me because it was so short.

the factory hose has different sized ends,
so a short piece cut from the roll isnt the correct part

Correct a stepped hose with two different sized metric hose ends.....so if one end "fits" the other does not.

My replacement from Roger did not look stepped. And fit both ends just fine?

Mine was just fine with a straight hose... no leaks.

Default Removal method for exterior trim around quarter glass

Repainting my S4 and need to remove the trim that surrounds the rear quarter glass. I've heard that the rubber seal and trim must come out as one?
Thanks

Hi I did know about the HVC hose I bought a new one from Porsche $4.20 the new one was a stepped hose with two different sized metric hose ends. I put it in an the old one was not very good I feel much better now the last thing I need is to have old one fail on me. Thanks for this great help on our cars Vernon.
