Default Supercharge for less

I had Victor's kit installed on my 928 for about 6 months and then I ran into this beauty. Think of how much money I could have saved if I had seen this first. Damn!

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/

You should watch the video of How it Works. I think the key is the backwards flowing compressor vanes. That's the key.

You can even go to the buy it now page and there is a way to select your vehicle. Do the 928 and you can see an actual picture of some tool, er I mean gearhead that installed this on their car!

I think the current draw will negotiate any HP gains.

It comes on ONLY at full throttle, so the alternators can catch the battery back up as soon as you don't nee max power any more.

----

There's no such thing as a free lunch. The ability for the little electric blower to generate 1PSI DP at full rpms and full thottle on a 928 is, um, questionable. But there's always the chance that it's just enough to get you to the finish line first.

----

In my feeble memory, it seems that you jump classes when you install a power adder like one of these, regardless of whether it adds any real performance. Except for anything-goes club racing, it would be a liability.

You can supercharge cheap with a centrifugal unit, or rear mount turbo setup. Go find a junkyard turbo, rebuild it and go to town... I know anything done cheap/for a fraction of the cost must be bad with the Porsche crowd. Nah.

Except the alternator will increase output as soon as the motor starts. If it draws any real current, it'll be like turning on the A/C compressor.

How quickly does the voltage drop at the battery when the motor is turned on? That's what determines charge current from the alternator.

But the point is moot. The single-stage 'compressor' motor sports over a 130% conversion efficiency, the compressor itself is virtually 100% efficient, more if you consider the heat of compression as a benefit, along with the better friction loss numbers from the higher pressure. Together they more than offset the 93% efficient alternator even with consideration for belt-drive losses and wiring resistance.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
