Default thoughts on this '79 Euro

I have been looking for a 928 for several months and I have learned so much from the folks here that are so helpful to others regarding issues with their car. I may go check this one out or see if there is someone nearby to That would do a PPI.

Is this look like petrol blue? or possibly another factory blue? I emailed the seller and hope to hear from him tomorrow.
I love these older ones but also like the idea of the higher performance of the later cars. I am so torn as to what to get.

If you like the older body style, but want more go, look for a Euro instead of a US model they are not that rare up to 1985.

Unless you are planning on owning several, good idea to be sure of what you want prior to purchase.

Looks like a sweet example. Asking a small premium over market, I think. Hard to price the more different models.

Get records for engine rebuild. Pictures of the interior, or a visit, are in order. The old cloth interiors are highly desirable (by me!) but tend to be fragile. Those many miles mean lots of butt time on the driver's seat.

From the add..." under carriage rhino lined. The car has some surface rust in and around engine bay. " Imported in 2005, so spent 25-26 years in Germany with the weather. Often Rhino line or undercoating is used to HIDE repairs or rust. Even if the car is fine it LOOKS BAD !!! is very suspect.

Jim from 928 Classics has kindly agreed to take a look at this car on Saturday for me. The Owners says, and shows receipts for a rebuilt transmission, new Koni and Hypercoil suspension. He also says the engine was fully rebuilt in Germany under ten years ago. Jim has been a tremendous help with this and has been very patient answering my many questions. I am anxious to hear his thoughts.

Just FYI almost NOBODY fully rebuilds a motor on a 928, blocks and cranks don't wear, etc. What that usually means is poor PM and timing belt failed.

But timing belt fail on that car just means it needs a new belt. More telltale is the coolant bottle standing in the boot. There's an accessort temperature switch in the top radiator hose, and a bunch of extra wiring rinning to the jump post. I'll speculate that the 'rebuild' was related to cooling system issues, maybe a head gasket failure.

Standing by for Jim's hands-on analysis and report.
