I've got them installed on one car now and I'm planning to use them this season and make a decision about keeping them after that. My rubber lines performed badly last time i really used them hard and I succumbed to the temptation of fixing the spongy pedal with SS on the advice of others who've pointed out these are relatively heavy cars. The 85's and earlier don't have the bigger brakes they put in the later models so there's even more reason to pay special attention to them I think. It's likely I'll never put as much stress on the brakes as I did last year at Laguna Seca when they outright failed on me; that time the car was being shared by two drivers in different run groups so the brakes were never given a chance to cool down and eventually just melted. I'm not *sure* SS lines would have helped, but I have been told it's one of the first things to try, before upgrading the entire system to the 4 piston Brembos. BTW Quatro, I was running fresh pads and fluid the day I melted them down so that wasn't the problem.

Having said that, unless I ran the car mostly on the track (in the past 10 years it's spent more time off road than on by a fair margin, but then most of that time it was in mothballs) I don't think I'd mess with them, and perhaps not even then if I don't see significant performance gains over the next few months. The first real trial is the end of May for me.

I know quite a few people who swear by them even though they're a pain, and this does seem to be one of those religious debates.

I'd go with better brake fluid and thicker pads before a line change to SS. I don't see how that'd change brake fade.

I really don't know how to go with better fluid. I use either Ate 2000 (amber) or blue, both have the same composition asfaik, just different colors, yes? I just alternate so I can tell when I've finished flushing.

The HPS pads are new for me, I'd been using something called "metal masters" and decided to try Hawks. We'll see...

The theory behind the braided lines is the one you've probably heard many times, they don't get soft and expand when hot. Again, we'll see...
