Default CL 1982 One owner 928, Santa Barbara, kinda sorta barn find

I know this car:

http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/cto/4412569282.html

It's was purchased by the father of one of my college classmates, new from a dealership in Ventura, for his wife... It's an actual "dentist's wife's" car. Classmate remembers driving down there with her mom to the dealership to pick it up.

Her mom passed away about 10 years ago. Her dad passed about 2 years ago. The kids have decided not to keep it.

I took a look at it a few months ago. According to them, it had been parked for about 10 years, but it was last registered in 2011. It seems to run well, although the brakes are in bad shape and I wasn't able to take it for a drive. The house is literally on the beach, and there is superficial spot rust on it. I didn't see any true rot, but it should be looked at carefully. The interior is in pretty good shape, the leather is still pretty soft. They have at least a partial set of workshop manuals. The engine compartment though looks like it hasn't been touched in a very long time.

I believe that this was a well cared for and loved, at least until 10 years ago. Based on the fact that the registration was maintained, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't occasionally driven or at least started on a regular if infrequent basis until a few years ago. You could tell the owner thought like an engineer; the garage was below ground and the setback from the road quite narrow with no real maneuvering room, so he designed a turntable into the garage floor that would allow you to drive in at an angle and then rotate the turntable to allow either one of two cars stored there to drive out at an angle. Pretty impressive.

Let me know if you have any questions, or contact the owner.

Feel free to ask
