Speedometer
I want to rid myself of the 85mph speedo in my 81 Euro S 5 sp. I'm only changing the one gauge. Does the "new" speedometer/odometer have to come from a 5 speed car & interchangeable from 79-82?

Presumably you'll be changing the whole thing to get the right numerals. With that in mind, decide if you want to swap all your other existing gauges into another cluster, assuming you could find one without them.
Call Mark/Tom at 928 Int'l. They've done this often enough that they know what you'll need/want. Were it me, I'd find the whole cluster, adjust the displayed mileage to match existibng, and go with it. The original would go to the original-parts locker to move on with the car when it's offered at my estate sale.

I dont think your transmission has any impact. My understanding is the speedocable is 'driven' by a rear part of the transaxle that is duplicated in both manual and auto versions (I'm no mechanic)
I would definitely take Dr Bob's advice and change the whole cluster over instead of just the speedo gauge. However, if you do change the gauge only, you might need to change the white plastic drive cog as well (928 Specialists tell me they are different).

I guess the auto vs 5 speed issue is if you are replacing the entire cluster. I have no interest in replacing the other gauges and cluster. I like having all the verbage in German.
