A/C blower and service
My blower howls and groans so it looks like a replacement is in the works. I recall a note some time back about one of our vendors who had a reasonably priced replacement but, like the *** that I am, I forgot to make a note.
Additionally, any notes on how to service the controls, etc. would be appreciated.

Here you go:

By 'service the controls', what specifically are you looking for? The HVAC head relay R&R? blower fan resistor R&R? Cleaning the A/C evaporater coils while the blower motor is out?

Burning Brakes
Before you order from Roger, disassemble the blower box to find out which kind of motor you have. There are two types: one that has a bar that crosses the center of the motor axle, one that does not.

In answer to Rob:
1. Even with the Freon topped off the ac does not blow cold.
2. The blower shrieks (already addressed)
3. The temperature slide is either all cool (not cold) or all hot.
4. The slides do not illuminate
That's all I can think of at the moment. Here in Wyoming (elevation ranging from 7000 - 12000 feet) we don't need a lot of AC but it's one of the things I've been meaning to address for some time.

If you do not get cold air, then your compressor could be worn out.
A simple way to check this is to look under your car and see if it is turning when the A/C is turned on.
Otherwise if it doesn't turn when the A/C is turned on, then you could have a bad pressure switch, freeze switch, or your head unit's relay could be toast.
Your temp slider issue is a classic issue of a bad temp sensor. It could be the one in the dash or outside of the car in the intake tube of the alternator.
If your slides do not illuminate then take apart the head unit and check to see if the fiber optic cable is broken or if the light bulb is burnt out. Hope it is the second one.
I have been through all of this and know your pain. Good luck on the repairs.

4. The slides do not illuminate
1. Engine running, AC on:
- See if the center of the compressor clutch is turning.
- Feel the AC lines. The small one from compressor to condenser s/b hot, large one across the firewall should be cold. If not, time for a set of pressure gauges.
3. Check the outside air temp sensor under the left headlamp. If it is not functional, temp control is all hot or all cold. The connector here is a common problem.
4. The slides are illuminated by fiber optics from a central bulb. Electrical connector may be loose, bulb may be faulty, fiber optics may be pulled out. You have to remove the controller to change the bulb.
