I ended up using some Porsche nuts from my parts bin and they torqued down nicely. I think the nuts provided with the Volvo mounts are just cheap mild steal, not hardened.
I purchase the nuts in bulk separately to the mounts ( they do not come with nuts) and they are Grade 8 so should be OK.

Thanks Roger, as well I over torqued them so my fault. How does grade 8 compare to OEM nuts?

Did everyone that's listing a cross brace clearance value make sure their cross brace is dead straight? It might be a useful proxy measurement for evaluating MM condition but only if the braces are straight....
And using the original cross member. I think the OP is using an after market cross member.

I've just edited my post to read that the cross brace is straight for the measured 10mm clearance with factory original mounts still in good condition on my 95.

I have my stock brace but its bent, so I can't confirm the distance with the stock brace. But the stock brace does sit higher than my 928 motorsport brace.

In then end I don't think it is going to be a big issue, a change in bolt on the fuel rail cover should do the trick. The volvo mounts are set in place and all buttoned up.

On a side note I can't wait to see how she drives with the new mounts and the derlin rack bushings.

It's going to drive great. The bushing changes makes a huge difference! I have solids in my car, but if you had the rubber ones before, the delrin will still be like night and day.
