Default Lower ball joint

Is the front lower ball joint the same for all years or are there 2 different pre and post 86?

Aluminum (pre '84) and steel '84 and later.

All aluminum ball joints should be replaced due to unreliability and unexpected failure

Pre- and post-86.5 are different and not compatible. Early cars came with aluminum units that should be replaced with steel versions. When swapping out the Al ones you'll need one new adjuster cam per side.
