928 Takes on (Most) Challengers at VIR
Here's a little highlight reel of passes from my track weekend with Zone 2 PCA at VIR this past weekend. I got passed a-plenty, but I was far from the slowest out there, and I took on my fair share of much faster rides. I set a personal-best lap time of 2:29, which is a 13 second improvement over last year.
In the video, I pass multiple 911s (of various eras), a '14 Stingray Corvette, multiple Caymans, an M3, an M1, several Boxsters, and a random Mercedes. I also get passed by a GT3 (duh) and have a nice little battle with a very quick 944 Turbo. Enjoy!

I remember those days..... In my old 88S4 automatic with one legger....by the end of my 1st day I was passing everything out there....it didn't make sense on paper my lowly 0-60 time, low peak G, long brake distance compared to the modern cars....how can I pass them, so easy....
The driver....the 928 is very easy to drive very close to its limit...that makes the drivers confidence go up and their limits quickly follow suit....
Race 928's are no different....it takes an extremely well developed car and driver to beat a 928 with similar power-weight-tires and aero.... Most likely it cost more too......like a cube factor more

Thanks guys. I think I'd be pretty pissed if I just paid $60k for a new Stingray to get passed by a 26 year old piece like mine. And Brian, I've got the Devek bar and five point harnesses. Looking at six pointers, and of course a HANS device. And an oil cooler... And better shocks... And... It's endless.

Nice work.
It's good to see you have a coach.

Lol, no I never tracked that one! Wanted to... But no. The hardest that was ever pushed was one autocross when my father owned it, on a completely different suspension, and the occasional PCA fun run. Neither of these come close to tracking the car.
The exhaust is the full Motorsports (Dave Lomas) package, that I believe Carl and Roger both sell. X pipe, no cats, 2 race mufflers in race mode. The exhaust on the black car, though, sounds pretty damn awesome, too. I still have the center test pipe for that car I think (cat delete). I can mail it to you. Buyer from me didn't want it. I would not use it, though, as it reduced the back pressure too much (IMO).
And yes, it is the most fun you can have with clothes on. I'm addicted.

Thanks Ken. Yes, I need to figure out a good lap timer situation. There are several options. Harry's is the most popular, but I'm on android. I have an ap on my phone that didn't work; couldn't load VIR for some reason. And I think I need a special attachment for my Go Pro (Hero 2) to sync them up.
You need to get out there to try the repave. It's fantastic.

Steve, good ear. I think it's a right rear wheel bearing going bad. Planning to check that out here shortly. It's not connected to being under load; only speed (present while coasting).
No TT.... yet.

I'm on Android too, and right now, the "best" solution I have found is Trackmaster on the phone and Race Render to overlay the data for Youtube/Vimeo.
Current Android solutions will show you your data over-layed on your video directly on the phone, but they will not export that for upload to YT/Vimeo, hence the need for RaceRender. Its a less than optimal solution.
Harry has had a non-video version of HLT for Android for a while, which worked well, but still required post-session rendering on your PC with RaceRender and a separate video camera.
The GREAT news is that Harry assures us that his Android version that includes on-board overly/rendering will be ready this month.
If that pans out, that will be _THE_ Android solution.
Then you just need a solid mount for your phone. I suggest beginning with a RAM mount

Great info, thanks Ken. My next event isn't until June, and even that is tentative, so I will wait to pick up Harry's. People couldn't say enough good things about it. Where do you mount your phone?
