’79 Seat Replacement
Over the winter I purchased a set of replacement seats for my ’79 from 928 International. I’ve been cleaning them and reconditioning the leather. I’m getting ready to do the actual replacement when the weather warms up a bit more. But before actually starting the work, I figured I should consult this forum before I do anything. I have two questions.
1) How do you remove the rear seats? I want to do it gently and try to minimize any damage. Looking at the replacement seats, it looks like the bottom part is glued in. Is that correct? What is the best glue to use?
2) The original front seats are manual. The replacement seats have 2 4-way switches. There is a connector under each of the front seats, it feels like it is 2 wire. I assume one of them is brown. With the original seats in place, I can’t actually look underneath to see the existing connector and wires. The replacement connector has 3 wires – brown, green and red with a yellow stripe. I know the brown goes to brown. What do I do with the other 2 wires? Do I connect both of them to the positive? What do the green and red wires control?
Is there anything I should be aware of before doing this?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Greg
PS -- When I was getting ready to clean the seats, I searched this forum. A couple people mentioned using a magic eraser. I was skeptical but tried it. By golly, it really worked well on the stubborn stains on the leather. My thanks to the forum for more great advice!!
PPS -- What are good sources for replacement carpet? I recall a "Rob" from the Frenzy, but I'm drawing a complete mental blank beyond that. Anyway, I would like to support the companies that support this forum.
