Default Cost of Ball Joints?

What is up with the cost of a simple ball joint. As I was working on my motor mounts and oil pan gasket I noticed one of my lower ball joints (little boot) is warn. I start searching for replacements...and they range from 120.00 to 180.00 each!

In my search a see that there is a small part number change (was, 928.341.049.08) the new # is 92834104909. Which turns up the usual pricing but it also shows an alternative option from MOOG. price is 43.00 each.

That's more like it!

Just wanted to share

If it's just the boot that's torn and the ball itself is still ok, you can get the boots separately. Not sure who sells them but I have a quartet of them here, bought from 928 Specialists in 2007, listed part # is 431 407 377 A - I think that's the Audi part #. I paid $23-ish per boot.

Several discussions on ball joint boots in the archives, good thread here:

I recently supplied Roger with the part number for an aftermarket boot that fits.

Check with him if a torn boot is the problem.

The Audi boot went well over $50 at least two years ago.

The Moog ball joint was withdrawn about a year ago from the wholesaler because of issues.
I see it is available again - do not know if I want to offer it or not. Best to use the original made by Lemfoerder.

Depending on how long the boot has allowed water into the socket, it could be not worth the labor just to do a boot and do the whole thing, to get it over with.

Just got some stats on the Moog joints --- 35 sold in the last twelve months and zero returns - early days yet.

MOOG used to be great, seems like issues after Federal Mogul.

Google is telling me warranty on Moog may be via seller, not Moog.

Silly price on just the boot, or no boot available, makes me want to pick any other vendor, zerk and modern design a plus, IF it has a good warranty.
