I'm in Fresno. Always welcome to have a get together and work on a couple at the same time. I have a lift in my garage as well. There's power in numbers

I will look into the info above.

Thanks,
Bryan.

Seems like its a nice car, with long term keeper plans. I would take it down to Greg Brown and have him do an inspection, then divide up the work between what you feel comfortable doing and have him do the rest. Start enjoying it immediately.

Sorry, I can't help with the smog issue. But if this is the car I think it is (former owner's name Allen), I would love to see some detailed pictures on how it turned out. I've seen it many times before it was taken apart...

Joejoe, will do.

I'm happy to do all of the work myself and have the capabilities but will use this site to gain some knowledge about how to tackle some of the issues before I start.

I'm not sayin I wouldn't take it down to find out but I know the motor has to come back out to address some of the issues with leaks so I would be able to address many other things at that time.

Nicole, you are correct, PM me if possible and we can catch up. The car is amazing... Just needs some final things more in the labor department than large items. It will take some time but should be fun to do.

boardwell..." .....91' S4 that has had extensive work done to it over the past 10 years to the tune of 70k....."

Perhaps rather than "extensive" the proper term should be EXPENSIVE... Sounds like it is in good hands now where it can get the love it deserves.

Being able to do all the work is good, but its not the same as having the experience to spot all the work that it needs to have done.

Hey Dave, could you explain a bit more about how you would go about this?

I don't believe I need to do it, but it seems like a handy trick to know.

Thanks,

Same as checking a tire or natural gas fitting in a house. Make up some soapy water, like for blowing bubbles, dish washing soap works ok, and put in a container with a small brush. Brush a little soapy water on the suspected leak area, apply a "little" pressure via somebody else's suggestion since I don't want to suggest something dumb, other than to say it needs to reliably be a slight amount of pressure, a couple psi or less, and I would think any post throttle fitting going to the whole manifold would work.

OTOH if I suspected the fittings, I would replace all the vacuum lines and couplings.

Default Update with new readings

Well, I failed again.

To be honest I didn't do anything other than a spirited drive since the last time I drove down on cold morning and didn't even let the car warm up.

I was able to reduce the NO due to hotter cats but there is still an issue. I am looking for the groups input here on all the numbers to see if we think it's just CAT's or if something else is messed. Please look at all numbers if possible and thanks so much for the help!!!

How long did you run the car for your trip? Did you finish a tank of gas? Do you have fresh gas in the tank? Old remaining gas will not help you pass the test.

Cali4sun, was just in your area last night. Good read. I will look into some of those and also replace my O2 sensor which I already had but didn't. My concern is that my CO% is literally at 0% so I am guessing adjusting my mixture would help as well. I will try and search how to do this one.

Bilal928S4, fuel is good and new. Ran the car roughly 20 minutes and gave it the beans after every stop light up to about 70mph. She was plenty hot and you can see my numbers went down from last time with much warmer cats but still very high considering.

Any other input on this? How easy to adjust fuel mixture to richen things up just a touch?

Thanks,
Bryan

There is no EGR on your car. A little oil in the intake will cause this, as will a small number of partially-blocked injectors. It only takes one to blow the test, and you might see it in plug colors.
DR. BOB, how are you doing? Have not seen you in a while, we all need to get together before Larry sells his 996 like he did him 928....
