Default gas pedal linkage problem

I am willing to bet that this isn't how the gas pedal is supposed to be connected. I have been unable to find any kind of picture of this. Please help.

Thank you...I guess that is how it is supposed to look. It looks like someone rigged it to connect to the linkage but i found another pic on line that looked similar.

It is correct. The pointy part curving away from the gas pedal triggers the kickdown switch installed in automatics.

I am looking to purchase the linkage that connects the gas pedal to the throttle lever. The ball socket on mine has a small crack and comes off very easily if my foot hits it from the side.
