Default Do I need new steering wheel washer?

Doing a job today which meant removing steering column, and I was reminded that last time I removed wheel I discovered the washer which sits behind the 27mm nut (p/n N 012 239 1) is badly twisted! I've tried to show how deformed it is in photo.

Last time I just put it back, but now I wonder if I should replace? It's listed in PET as "spring washer". so maybe it is meant to be that shape? If not, how on earth did it ever get that shape given how tightly the wheel nut is torqued?

Thanks

Adrian

Mine was missing, so I bought a new one. It's warped like the one you have.

Thats what all 928 spring washers look like. This one is just larger than most.

Huh- timely. Removed my steering wheel yesterday too, to replace the column bearing. Then the WYAIT virus got me and now the pod has been removed
