Default 928 rental in San Fransisco area?

Hi.

Going on a trip to the bay area i early september. My friends probably will opt for motorcycle rental, but myself being a big 928 fan withoout actually owning one (yet) would love to rent a 928 to get around Napa and highway 1. Anybody knows of any 928 rental?

Thanks

I think it would be great to tour around America in 928, like route 66 and all that touristy crap.
Since I don't own one over there I have wondered about maybe renting/borrowing one from someone. So I don't think it's a particularly strange request.
However I would not recommend renting or borrowing one if you've never owned one. The 928 is a car you have to learn, you can't really just get in and drive it for a week like a rental! That would be silly.

Typical polite response to an honest question. Keep it up.

Your chances in LA are better. Yesterday at the Hertz lot in Marina Del Rey they just about anything you could imagine including a '37 LaSalle parked next to a 49 Ford coupe, next to an R-8. I think the name is Hertz Regency. In LA you can rent anything...cute ones and ugly ones

I'm afraid the cash deposit required to rent mine would be prohibitive as you could buy a coupe of nice examples for much less.

I think there are major insurance problems involved with an individual renting out their vehicle.

Well, if you have the cash, you can rent just about anything..
Don't forget that little singer twerp got arrested in Florida for OWI in a rented Lambo.

Because of where I am, the search results gave me Chicago area stuff.

I found this:

Kinda spendy, look at the posted daily rates.

Searching San Fran, I found Hertz offers "Dream Cars." Including Porsches and Astons and Ferraris. But all newer stuff.

You could always shoot them an e-mail and ask. Nothing ventured nothing gained, right?

And I think if you could find one, just "jumping in" a 928 wouldn't be too big of a deal. They were always touted as very well mannered cars.

Funny thread. Pretty cool selection, prices are very similar to what I remember them being in London 15 years ago when I called up a place just for the hell of it.

It would be very awesome to rent a 928, granted that the agency stocks well-maintained examples. You shouldn't have any problems with a 928 that has not been neglected. There are a ton of them in good condition, unfortunately what seems to be far less than what was produced. Honestly, you may be able to find one but probably would have to pay a premium for it because it's not only an exotic but also a classic. I'm sure somewhere in California there's some ritzy car rental service that can get you most any car you want. Just have to spend for it but it's worth it, in my opinion. Then again, I own one so I'm very bias

Maybe try contacting the PCA (Porsche Club of America) and see if they can help out with finding renting classic exotics?
