This is one of the very few (around 10) factory 928 S4 with 944 front lights. The wide rear fenders are more common, but not by so much. |

Interesting, by the details given, its VIN must be: WP0ZZZ92ZHS840516
WP0ZZZ92ZHS840516 1987 928 C00 M28.41 G28.12 298 Prepared for unleaded fuel, manual transmission 326 Radio, Becker type CR21 490 Hi-Fi sound system 533 Alarm system 537 Left seat with positrol and lumbar 570 High output air conditioner 586 Lumbar support - left seat 650 Sunroof |
I'm really skeptical that this was done by the factory. Since when does the factory put aftermarket parts on the car? That wing looks to be a Strosek wing and the rear arches and side skirts look to be aftermarket as well. If the factory were going to install wide rear fenders I would think that they would use the GTS style rears. At the very least they would stick with the squared wheel opening and not change it to round, which really goes against the styling of the car IMO.

This was made by the excusiv department. I'm not sure the spoiler was then painted but all the body work is strictly as the car leaved the factory.

I agree, if they wouldn't make a larger sunroof version for the producers of Magnum PI, I doubt they would have done those headlights or skirts. Plus why would they put 944 headlights in a 928? That would have required a specific mold for the fender.

The headlights are a (maybe not well known) exclusive option, there are more cars around with those.

Sorry Randy, but you are wrong : this kind of headlights and side skirts plus rear fenders extensions are strictly OEM from the Porsche exclusive dept.
Here's a link to the 2002 Porsche 928 euro meeting in Germany, you can see a special facelift for a 928... http://members.rennlist.com/jeifert/euro_928_02.html Cheers, Michel http://culte928.new.fr |

In 1978, this became the Special Request Department, and the first catalogues bearing the name ‘Porsche special request programme’ were created, replacing the typewritten lists of the early days. A key phrase in that 1973 special order programme was “The catalogue provides only an overview of the most important work – our repair department can do more.” Special new cars could be ordered and restorations undertaken, and both these sides of the business have grown. Global demand for such individual work was so great that in 1986 the company decided to create the new ‘Porsche Exclusive’ division, which has gone from strength to strength ever since. The aim is to leave every customer satisfied, whether they want special colours, power upgrades or something else – anything technically feasible will be fulfilled. Do know one thing, I dislike the headlights.... and they look like a cheap aftermarket install. Just doesn't flow or sit well within the fenders.
Maybe it's the color of the car throwing me off |

I don't believe that - not on a 928.
This has come up a lot of times over the years.. here's a picture from Brian Long's book: http://members.rennlist.org/vilhuer/928S4SlantNose.gif |
Here's an interesting coincidence.. highly likely this is the same car, no? (French junkyard from a 2010 advert)

Car looks so sad :(

I kind of like the pop-up lights. They look like 944s but with that pic above of what it looks like upright they appear to be a custom piece for the 928. I think it's the color that's ruining the look.
