Some interesting ideas here: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-build-a...car-1129913775

My idea is to use a Rasberry PI, and some additional circuits, to process the incoming signal and output it to a HUD. I recall thread here where someone was making an LCD display so the gauge input signal type is evidently known. I have no idea if I'll be able to get this to work, but I figure it might be fun to try.

While having a HUD is very cool and practical ( I have it in my BMW E61, and would not buy a new car without a HUD), I don't think it is worth the effort to put in in the 928.

To do it right you would have to seriously cut-up the dash POD, and you would still be only able to show some basic stuff.

What I appreciate most to see in the HUD are the SAT-NAV instructions, and the 928 obviously doesnt come with factory SAT-NAV :-)

But that's off course just my two cents.

With a projector type of display the opening can be small enough not to look funny.

I ordered an Arduino and Rasberrry PI today. We'll see what happens.

Are those sold some assembly required or all C++?

Would be cool if someone could create a HUD within Google Glass. No need for boxes on the dash.

The Arduino is sold in both kit and finished form. From what I've seen the Rasbery PI is only sold assembled. I bought both assembled from Amazon with accessories. The Rasberry Pi was about 80 and the Arduino 65. The Arduino uses it's own programming language. Since Linux can be loaded on the Rasbery Pi, you can use pretty much any programming language that floats your ho ho.

They are all simple analog sensors.

Oh dooo-ooooh! Talk about a solution hiding in plain sight!

Driving home this evening pondering HUD's and glanced at the 'digital display' ... ... ... ... viola - most of the work has already been done!

All that remains is to use those display driver signals to also drive an LED array projecting onto the windscreen.

A Motorola 68000 processor runs the digital dash, so perhaps someone well versed in machine code could suggest a thing or two.

I used that processor back in college quite a bit. That's what made me think of trying this. I'm going to stick with the Adruino since I have one now. Hopefully more to come soon.
