Default Wire harness zip tie holders - best 35 cent part I've seen in a long time

For those of us that have done any rewiring in the engine compartment, we know how brittle the Porsche plastic gets, and that includes the holders for the wire harness. If you're lucky enough to be able to use the stock ones more than once, my hat goes off to you. Mine all broke except 2, and I wasn't going to buy more of that inferior plastic again. So I found these at www.ceautoelectricsupply.com

On the right side is the stock Porsche zip tie holder and in the middle is the new holder without zip tie, and the left one is the complete assembly after installing the zip tie of your choice. The nice thing is you can leave the holder in place, and just replace the zip tie as needed. A pack of 10 is $3.50 and well worth it in my opinion. The part number is CT6-10. They fit perfectly and no longer requires a hammer to push that center pin in...just push and you're done.

While you're out and about, stop by an Office Depot or Kinko's with your wiring diagrams, and get them blown up for $5 to jumbo size. Now they are actually readable, although a bit hard to manage...

Cheers!
Carl

Those are good, nice that they fit the factory holes. I have used these types (ones at the top) - but you need to screw them in new holes (or use a separate auto fastener...). BTW there are lots of adhesive types - none of them seem very likely to hold up in the engine compartment.

On the diagrams - For later when your eyesight gets really bad - Porsche actually sold large versions (very large) - here is an example for my '94. I have the full set just for my model year.

These are 24"x46" The 12" ruler and FWM for scale (no bananas available).

Summit Racing kit for the body grommets. For firewall grommets behind fuse panel, Steele Rubber Products (http://www.steelerubber.com/general-use-parts) has a perfect size fit grommet for the right (smaller 2") hole for wire bundles. Don't have the part number handy but will dig it up.

Cheers!

Hi Alan,

Now you tell me! That is the same size mine are printed in, but they didn't have the correct paper size so I ended up with some excess Interesting that Porsche made those available. Probably a bit more than $5 though

I looked at those fasteners you listed and probably spent hours before I finally found the ones I posted. Everything else seemed like too much of a compromise. And I didn't want to drill any new holes if I could avoid it.

The nice thing about the large factory prints is that to my eye they are even sharper than the small ones in the FWM - even though the scale is much larger - so they are super clear. I'm sure they were expensive new - I got mine for free by knowing the right people at the right time - so the price was right!

BWT the aspect ratio of the printing on these is a little different from the trifolds in the manuals. I also wonder if these are much better for 1989 than the really crappy quality ones in the factory manual.

Yes for replacement use what you listed look very very good - they look clearly better to me than the stock ones.

Much of the wiring where I used the ones I showed was new installation, so holes needed to be drilled anyway & you can pop-rivet these. I still like the type I posted for new heavy gauge cables; because its very secure, it wedges the cable in. For small gauge bundles/factory looms that's really not important.

My 17" x I think 30" prints made from the files on the Jim Morehouse CDs appears to be limited by the quality of the Kinko's inkjet, easy to read, but I can see the dots making up letters looking closely. It could be the files actually have text, ocred instead of just scanned?

I've scanned my factory diagrams, but the printed quality in the wsm's is pretty grainy and the line work looks really crude. Every once in a while I spend a few hours tracing over the scanned images using AutoCAD. It is drudge work for the most part. My original plan we to do them in color, but building all the line colors (solid xcolor with the spiral ycolor tracer) takes more time than the actual drawing panels themselves.

Whats part number for large diagram? Could be worth geting them and making better scans for geting good quality copies into car. Been meaning to scan small factory versions as PDF WSM versions are so bad.
