Default Euro H4 Price Differences

Learned a lot searching here and elsewhere about H4s, but haven't found the answer to this question: why the large price difference between, say, a pair of these http://www.busdepot.com/0301600118 and one of these http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...928-631-101-03 ?
AFAIK, they're both proper 7" Euro H4s.

Found these large price differences at other Porsche websites as well. I'm sure it's not gouging, there's something I'm missing...

Thanks.

7" vs 8"
the 7" are generic and the 8" is 928 specific

As Mark says - a night and day difference because of the size.
New are $355 for the 8" H4.

After the gears ground around a bit more, have another question. In H4 vs. H5 discussions, there appears to be some consensus in favor of the Euro H4. But regarding just the 'good' Euro H4s, and with originality considerations aside, how much performance difference is there between a proper Euro 7" H4, and the Porsche 8" Euro H4 (928-631-101-03)? My cars have the chrome ring 7" sealed beams, will eventually be changed out for H4s in one form or other.

Has been discussed many times here but most are subjective evaluations.... the 7 inch lights are cheap and a huge improvement over standard sealed beams. The 8 inch are designed for Autobahn use for a 170 MPH supercar car....so yes they are better. Adding in a dedicated headlight wire and additional relay/fuse at the jump start post will provide higher voltage to any light as well. Higher watt H-4 bulbs are an option too. When you can peel paint off the garage door with the headlights you have got it about right

What "Superstar" Jim said. He is faster at typing than I am 8>).

8" H4's are available in RHD and LHD so be careful when buying on eBay or such.

7" Euro H4s it is. Maybe someday my lottery ticket will hit, then it'll be the 8 inchers. Thanks much.

Just picked up an 8" H4 from ebay for $50. Fair condition, but what the heck for 50 bones.

Point is, they're out there.

7" H4's are very good, they have all the right features, good accurate reflectors & better lenses for a much better pattern and more powerful bulbs (stock) than the DOT sealed beam 7"or 8" H5 versions. (Low beam 55W vs 45W => 22% more).

They don't look as nice in the headlight pods as 8" H4s or 8" H5s but they are much better in every other way over an H5 (not even close to any real comparison IMO).

8" H4s are incrementally better than 7" H4s - same excellent design concept - but bigger reflectors and bigger lenses just focus better and reflect more light. 7" vs 8" may not seem much but it compounds to a significantly larger effective area - close to 35% more reflector area (allowing for the same size bulb mount space on both), while the lens area is ~30% more. Does that equate to 30-35% better lighting - no, not that much - but these lenses do handle higher power bulbs the best of all types.

For the money 7" H4s really can't be beat on value - anyone running 7" DOT sealed beams would be crazy not to upgrade to 7" H4s if they drive at night - at all. Its cheap, very effective and looks the same/better. They are a plug & play swap.

If you have H5's and like the look of them you may not want to swap to a 7" H4 lamp and a chrome trim ring - but they will totally outclass your H5s in lighting performance. Requires a connector change (readily available)

If you can afford 8" H4s you won't be dissapointed - this is how the car was really supposed to be... from sealed beams its electrically a direct plug & play (you may need dummy adjusters for the lower frame - available), while from H5 it requires just a connector swap or plug adapter (readily available).

My 8" H4s are being ordered as I type this. I ditched the standard sealed beams before I ever drove this car on the road, and put in 7" Hella H4s. I don't expect much of a difference in lighting. I bought these strictly for vanity purposes. I don't know what looks worse. The chrome rings and sealed beams on a 928, or the uncircumcised look of a early-mid 80s 911?
