Fuel level sender
Hey guys, does anyone have known resistance values for the fuel level sender? I'm trying to figure out why my fuel level indicator is so far off, and i figured i'd start with the easiest part to test. To give an idea of what its doing, the gauge reads completely wrong, it falls too soon to be a real indication of fuel level. i'll still have over half a tank and it will show that i'm below the reserve line without actually tripping the reserve warning light. the only way i do know to get more fuel is when that fuel warning light comes on, which means i have about 3 gallons left.
I just tried jumping the terminals at the back in the fuel sender connector and saw my fuel guage respond, although it only went 3/4 of the way, which is what my guage does after i fill the tank. So it almost seems like the guage could be the issue, but I was hoping to find something before having to dig the cluster out again. Any suggestions or known resistance values on the sender? Thank guys.

I know Rob Edwards posted the resistance values a while back. Try a search for his username, and fuel sender and it should pop up. I seem to recall it is between 70 ohms and something much smaller. (0?) I'll see if I have the numbers somewhere
Cheers!

I just tested it and got like 3-76 ohms, and it was consistent between the entire range, so i'm pretty sure its good... however i noticed that the plastic peice at the bottom of the sender was gone, it was there when i removed it before... so for what ever reason it fell off and is now floating around in the fuel tank... no idea how i'm gonna get it out.
I'm pretty sure my problem is in the cluster, not sure how you test this though.

Someone with really small hands....or a expanding claw tool can reach in there and fish it up.
The ohms reading sounds familiar...think I got 2 to 70 ohms when I tested mine. If I remember correctly the higher the resistance the lower the level, so if the wiring has lots of resistance somewhere (and the sender checks out) then the gauge would never read full completely. Not sure how to adjust the indication though

well i have small hands and could grab it, but the problem is that i'll displace the fuel in it and make a huge mess... i guess i didnt really think it through when i filled the tank up last night, but i also didnt anticipate things falling apart...

Your gauge has "brewers droop" which is quite common.
You need to readjust the indicator upwards so that it reads full when full. Apart from pulling the pod easy to do.

not that it bothers me at all, because the car runs like a champ, i feel like something this small and stupid could drive away potential buyers if i ever decided to go for a 911.

I agree with the resistance readings above ~ 0-80 ohms. Check the wires for deposits from dried fuel, and clean off CAREFULLY. Also ensure that the > shaped parts that are meant to slide on the wire both have the wire running on the point - as in >| - one of mine was |> on the wrong side, giving intermittent contact.
