Thanks to Alan for straightening me out re H4 vs H5. It would appear that I have H5. So, now, the question is what would be my best choice for new bulbs. Here in Wyoming, there are critters all over the highways; I slammed an elk earlier this winter in a white-out. It was my Caddy, not the Porsche, thank God, and the damage was minimal. The point, however, is that bright lights are pretty important around here.

"Five elements" referred to LED for h4. Any such thing for h5. Being an old coot working part time and on SS, the idea of forking out $300 - $400 for some of the h4 conversions does not thrill me.

I'd be very suspcious of how this will work out in an H5 lamp - which are basically just very crappy optics however you slice it. If you add power to any H5 (even with incandescent 9004 bulbs - with the exact correct filament placement) you just get massive flare that is totally unacceptable for everyone else on the road.

I think this is unlikely to be any better than that (in fact I can't imagine any possible way it could be at all better).

Just get new stock bulbs - Or get "offroad bulbs" that have stock low beam and higher power highbeam - sometime motorcycle specific. You should never upgrade the low beam power on H5's in my opinion - it's not fair to everyone else on the road.

If your bulbs have dimmed over time (all do...) then just getting new stock rated bulbs will help. Stock H5 is 45W/65W (Lo/Li).

Well... you can just install the yellow factory bulbs but every 2 years they will burn out. I posted that info because soon I will be upgrading from HID to LED which should not be $300, more like $90. Many others who like reliable options will want to know about that new technology. It's likely that in a short time H5 will be available in 2500+ lumen LED bulbs. If there is a market, it will be made.

What I'm telling you is that in an H5 that is just criminal - it will be just horrible and shouldn't be done. The fact that the LED technology is new doesn't change the fact that the H5 DOT technology is quite old (and was always crappy).

With these you will be blinding people driving towards you on the same road - I don't really see how that can be a good idea for anyone - do you?

Regular stock 9004 bulbs last much longer than 2 years in average driving (which most 928's don't see anyway) and cost only about $10 each (not $90)... apples & elephants

In H4's it might be OK, IMO HID's really aren't that good in H4's but maybe the LEDs will be better...

Has anyone installed projector style replacement bulbs into 8” USA DOT headlights with 9004 replaceable bulbs or 8” H4 headlights with H4 replaceable bulbs? Clearly you would have to take out the metal reflector that covers the end of the halogen bulb.

Example:

Might align well, may not...that's what makes/breaks HID/LED replacements...how likely they are to aim other drivers into a front end collision with you after they get blinded from bulbs that dont align well.

But thats the lens to have, if the bulbs work right.
