Default Fuel economy gauge

I have an 81 4.5 Australian 928. The fuel economy gauge on the taco reads full when the ignition is on. This to me seems like a short, but could it be an earth? Where on the engine does it go to? Actually, I don't know why I want it to work, it's only going to be bad news anyway!

It takes a signal from the fuel distributor, which is basically telling you what position the plunger is in, which controls fuel flow to the injectors. Can't remember if the meter position is also modulated by speedo signal ... I seem to recall some description buried somewhere in my files detailing that.

The good thing about the meter is it confirms that you have your pedal to the metal ... but that's about it ... and you know that anyway! ...

Here's a pic of where it plugs in. Yours may not be plugged in or have damaged wiring ... get back to us with what you see on your car.

Excellent, thanks. I'll go there soon, just moving to a bigger shed...oh and the house is ok too. As I suspected, I don't think it's going to change my driving habits.
