Hello, I have followed the threads here since I purchased my 928, and so far have been able to do everything needed to the car off of others post. However, las week I was driving, and my passenger mirror came off the car. It was dangling there by the wires. I need to screw it back in. I was reading it is easiest to take the door panel off to do this, which it did today. My problem is that I still can not fully take the mirror off to screw back in. Any advise greatly appreciated. Btw, it's an 82 5sp

Will try this next. The trouble I'm having is I don't even have an inch of slack, so it's very hard to work on.

Update**

This morning I prepped the door as to not get scratched.

Then removed the Allen bolt from behind mirror

Then took some pictures of what I have to work with.

Won't let me upload anymore for some reason. Will try again later. I can't get the spring to compress enough for me to thread it in though.. Am I missing something??

You have to be a member (I believe) to upload pictures. It is a little bit of money, but totally worth it.

I'll have to do that later. I'm still trying to get this mirror figured out.

I had the same thing happen on a 944 with the same mirrors. It turned out the female threads in the end piece had stripped out. I had to remove the end piece of the flag from a used mirror body. I needed to remove the wires that go through the bolt like thing to do the work.

Hopefully not. I'm going to try the pliers trick when I get back home. Unfortunately I didn't have more than 20 minutes to fiddle today.

Mirror has been pretty loose on that side since I bought it, so it's my fault for not tightening before..

Did some more examining, and it looks like it is all stripped out. I guess I'm in the market for a new end piece.

That would be great, thank you. I'll let you know. Where would it be coming from?
