Just wanted to do an intro and offer great thanks to the contributors of this forum. I am 'lurking' on here a lot and find that most questions have been answered before.
I picked up my S3 last summer, it was originally bought in '86 less than 15 minutes from my house. It is largely original apart from the usual stereo /speaker fumblings. It is daily driver condition due to what appears to be storage dings but has plenty of good aspects.Added bonus of finding the LSD code after getting it home. It is a long life project under way.
Anyway i love the site and look forward to getting a bit more involved in the future.
Kind regards,
Jon

Very nice car.

Are you actually missing the two air intake tubes? Ouch. Those are really hard to come by. I have a pair of old ones, one is good and the other is disintegrating with a huge hole where part of the compression end used to be. You can have them for just the cost of shipping. Should at least save you from trying to locate one good one.

Note:

The '85-86 model year intake tubes were specifically designed for our engine bay. You cannot use older or newer year intake tubes or those eBay "general" ones. They have to be model year specific or else it won't fit (they'll get crushed under the cross bar and won't attach to the air box).

One of my faves. The 86.5, stick with LSD. Own it in good health.

Wow. 86.5, 5-speed, LSD.

That checks all the boxes for the perfect 928 IMO.

Time to get to work. Engine needs cleaning up, replace the fuel lines and do a top-end refresh as well as timing belt/water pump and probably motor mounts. Check out and replace all bushings in the shift linkage and suspension, do the brakes (complete) and you'll be ready for years of fine, dependable driving.

Welcome and good luck!

Hey, that is very kind and generous of you, i do in fact have the original intake tubes and air filter. They are not perfect but will have to do for now.
Focus is on a MAF rebuild, she smokes a tonne until its unplugged.
Fuel lines.
Cam belt, water pump, tensioner.
Cleaning with electric toothbrushes seems to be a favourite past time right now.
Will be an interesting few months, great thanks for the warm welcome!!
