Carl,
While putting it back together, did you used the metal nuts/clips, rubber caps, nuts and bolts ( under the body, in the engine bay and interior) or replaced them. I am thinking about my options; I can use them a) as is, b) coat metals nuts, bolts, metal nuts/clips with cadmium or c) replace all with new ones.
Is there an easy way to source new metal clips, original screw, nuts , bolts other than from Porsche?
Thanks,
Evren

Evren,

I replaced most of the plastic u-brackets that hold the fuel lines under the car with new ones...most of the old ones were cracked or broken. The few that were not broken cleaned up nicely with some orange degreaser, dial soap and a tooth brush. The rubber isolators that go in those same brackets and hold the fuel lines were well preserved and I just cleaned them. The rubber plugs that seal the holes in the body panels were in great shape, so I reused those. I did buy some trial rubber plugs from Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com/search/s...or-panel-plugs) or http://www.rubbertherightway.com/body-plugs.htm

I was going to use them to seal other panel holes in the interior, and some work ok, be aware that they are not metric so it is not an exact fit.

For the metal speed clips, I dipped them in Eastwood's rust encapsulator, which gives them a satin black finish and will prevent any further corrosion as well as stop the corrosion that had already formed. It works great. I chose it because the car is black and it will make the clips blend in with the surrounding area but mostly because they are exposed to the elements and will corrode quickly if not coated.

As far as the metal bolts go, I degreased them and them put them in a tumbler with dry shine media to polish them somewhat. The result was mixed, some came out looking like new, some just had too much discoloration that even a couple of days in the tumbler would not get rid of all the surface discoloration. If I was going to make the car a show car, I would have had the bolts plated, but I personally did not see the need for it. If you are going for the exact "factory new" look, then I would definitely have them plated. I know plenty of members here on Rennlist have had theirs plated, seems Texas has a few places that do bulk plating fairly cheap. Here in Florida it is almost impossible to find places to plate them due to environmental regulations. I'm sure someone else who had theirs plated can chime in and let you know where they sent their hardware to be plated.

The bolts can be purchased from 928 international, 928's-r-us, 928 Specialist, or you can also find a good selection at: https://www.belmetric.com

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
Carl

Carl thanks,
I also plan to replace the u-brackets from Porsche. Plating metal is easy here and the does not cost that much. My GT's underbody is now coated with Terotex Super 3000 (a German Terason/Henkel product). This is what the Porsche dealers use here and I assume this product is certified by Porsche. As a result the underbody is in grey color not midnight blue metallic and it is close to the original dirty white undercoat I had. Thanks for the info and I will check the links you kindly mentioned.
Thanks,
Evren
