Default XPost: Rare OEM Cup 2 wheels & tires - 17x8 ET70 & 17x9 ET55

I was told by another Rennlister that these wheels are the hot setup on 928s - thought I would cross-post from the FS section.

2x 17x9 ET55, 2x 17x8 ET70 wheels + tires. Fronts have been refinished and are 10/10. Rears are in OK shape, with some scratches, fading, and wear. Comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires w/ 70-80% of tread remaining. I believe they are 225 front, 255 rear (will double check).

17x8 ET70 is a very rare wheel that I believe needed to be ordered as a snow wheel(?) from the dealer. Typical set from a 911 has 17x7 in the front, and 968 M030 came with 17x7.5. This would be a great setup on a 928.

Asking $1300 + shipping or best offer.

I was quoted about $170 to ship to the East Coast and around $130 to ship West Coast.

I can link to more photos for those that are interested. PM or email dstupakov [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks!

They aren't all that rare, but I think they go well with the complex curves on our cars. The spoke is curved across the longitudinal axis of the spoke. The edge of the spoke is curved in toward the rim where it attaches in both planes. The holes for the lugs are smoothed and tapered. .02 cents. Mine are polished, not chromed.

ET 70's are rare as they were only sold as winter wheels.

Yes, 17x8 ET 70 wheels are rare and make a nice upgrade from the original 17 x 7.5 fronts. Assume these are Porsche OEM and not replicas. If someone else hasn't already bought them, give me a PM ...

I agree - the 8 X 17 et 70's Cup II wheels are quite rare. I first discovered the existence of these wheels while perusing PET one day about 12 years ago, and immediately thought they'd be great options for the front of a 928. Kim Crumb (remember him!) was quite surprised to learn they existed. In the past 12 years, I've come across 5 sets of these (and bought them) then sold 4 of these sets. The fifth set is for the front of my '94, along with the very common 9 X 17 et 55 rears (which were OE on the later '94 GTS's).

The 8" wide et 70 is essentially perfect for a 928, as the center-line of the front tires is kept within a mm of the same position it is in with the OE GTS Cup II 7.5X17 et 65 wheels. No increase in tramlining or scrub radius with this combination, and they do not rub at full lock nor interfere with the fender lip on severe compression of the front end.

Perhaps the only Cup II front wheel that is MORE rare is the 9 X 17 et 70. To my knowledge, there are less than 5 sets of these in the USA - perhaps only 3 sets. All of those were imported to the US after being purchased in Germany.

8x17 ET70 are more common in Europe but still difficult to find. Pair of them comes available maybe once a year on average in http://www.ebay.de. We usually end up buyng them to Finland.

Hi Gary - I, too, only know of 3 sets - they're on the fronts of:
  • Dan's Turq car
  • My car
  • possibly a set on Boomboom's Zyc car?

Are these the three you're thinking of?

To the OP - those look very nice, GLWS!

Yes, Jared, you and I were thinking of the exact same three sets of 9" et 70's.
