Default WTB: Early Car Lift Bars

I was just about to purchase a set of "early car" lift bars, but just saw they are no longer available on the Porken site.

Does anyone know why they are no longer available? Was it a safety thing, or just lack of demand?

Does anyone have a set of the pre-86.5 bars they need to get rid of? A lift is not possible in my work area, and as everyone knows, it's a job in itself getting this car in the air.

Happy to pick up in NJ and surrounding states.

Thanks!

i think its a lack of demand, and they are difficult to make for what he was charging vs the later ones

Oh that's too bad. I had no idea they were NLA. Definitely a worthwhile purchase - I love mine. Maybe worth generating some interest to see if he will make another run of them.

I've been wanting a set for early cars. I posted a couple WTB threads with no response.

If they are NLA due to lack of demand, maybe we need to start a group buy thread.

If that doesn't work, maybe a "do you want to sell" thread. There could be a lot of them collecting dust that people just never bothered to put for sale.

Lack of demand, required a big heavy jig and hydraulic bender, took twice as long to make and weighed more than the newer type.

Bender needed replacing, combined with new Parcel Post rates up by 50% was the last straw.

I recycled the jig and bender, so no more can be made...

And my hopes of getting one just got crushed. Ouch! Would there be a way to modify the later version to work with the older cars?

Bummer Indeed. These were on my wish list as a relatively new OB owner.

What's the difference, not just lift point shape?

Maybe someone can come up with OB liftbar II?

Old style quick lift tricks (from memory), fashion a block of wood to fit the crossmember in front and jack from that to raise the front and place stands, then lift from maybe crossmember in the rear for same.

For me, I can't see being without a lift of some kind.

Wow...glad I got mine when I did....one day, when I get a lift, I might post mine for sale, but that really does not help in the "now" , does it?

Glad I snagged a set off CL for a very reasonable price last year.

Okay guys, get ready for the latest scam:

FS: Early 928 liftbars. These NLA bars are a steal at $500 including shipping. Once your Western Union wire payment is received, bars will be shipped. Please allow ample time for delivery.

Wow, I'm really glad I bought 1 1/2 sets of these while they were in production.

I think all I need is a bump stick and a Porkensioner for the complete set of S3 Doodads that Ken made (including the also NLA Bridg-it which is also a must-have for hacking/logging your S3).

Mike, you can borrow my set of liftbars if you like. Let me know.

Mike, thanks for the great offer! I am probably going to take you up on it when I attempt to do my motor mounts when the weather gets better. I'd love to check our your car too.

Looks like I have to set some more google alerts and saved searches on craigslist.

Anyone that hears about early liftbars for sale, I'd appreciate a PM.

Thanks!
