Default ’95 GTS for $18,000

Desperate to sell, or engine not included, or scam, you decide.

https://www.carsforsale.com/used_car...28_224655271_6

Just for S & G’s, I inquired. Here’s the response:

Hello, thank you for the interest in my 928 GTS. First of all the car in MINT condition!!! I am not in US anymore, i'm a pilot, and i am working for an airline company from Europe. The shipping will be included in the price. I sealed the car in a container due the many problems with shipper handlers that i heard, i wanted the car to be received by it's new owner without any scratches.
I am selling the car because i have family problems, i just divorced from my ex wife and have to split some things with her. I need to sell it asap, this way i will have no more contact with her. If you are interested i will give you more information. The shipping company has a department which acts like a 3rd party objective, this way we will be both protected. The car has only 73,713 miles, the title is already signed, no rust, no nothing!
If you are interested let me know, if not i wish you'll find a good car, thank you, Gordon Keith.

Thank you.

So then I went here and guess what I found.

IIRC, the "In a shipping container" story is a classic car scam 'tell tale', as much as the 'on a ship in the Pacific, buying it as a surprise for my father' is for other stuff.

You might string him along, ask him what shipping company, where the car is, VIN, history, PPI, all that.
I'd be curious how he responds.

I did. "Where is the car? I need to see it. If everything is as you say, I'll buy it."

No response yet.

It is obvious the pictures are straight from Willhoits website. I can't find a "report scam" option on the advertisers site.

Yes, I looked around a bit for a "report scam" link, the only thing that came close is a "contact us."

I have a feeling you won't get any answer to your request to see it, unless you get a "It's sealed in a container at the shipping company."

Total scam... Who cares about all the drama in they guys life with travel and problems. Who talks like that when trying to sell a legitimate car? It's like those spam emails... "I'm in Nigeria and need your name, address and private information so I can mail you a bazillian dollar check as a gift."

Yeah, makes ya wonder if there's danger in even inquiring with your email address.

I have a couple different e-mail addys. It's easy to create a "throw-away" Gmail account for stuff like this. I think they have a limit on how many you can have, but if so, it's more than the 3 or 4 that I have.

There are websites discussing trolling scammers, but all you do is waste your time along with theirs.

Enough people fall for it to keep the scam alive.

That is crazy... I can't even believe people actually fall for these scams this day and age. We have seen just about all of them in various forms over the 2+ decades the web has been really churning so you would think everyone recognizes them. Guess not.

That said, I bought my 108k mile '95 GTS for $23k (I think), so there are good deals out there. Other than needing a T-belt, H2O pump, and some paint work (ok, quite a bit of paint work...but hitting the deal while being delivered took care of that need as insurance didn't total the car and it was repaired VERY nicely) it was quite a decent car. Now it is the Green Mamba and is spectacular!

Is that for me??? Top to bottom... At the car sales place in San Jose. You can just make out a dent near the filler door on the rear qtr panel. What you can't see is the sunroof is pretty much devoid of paint. Lost of other scratches and stuff on the car as well. Cracks in the finish on the wing as well.

The next shot is after hitting the deer at 80 mph on the highway. Car probably should have been totaled. Thankfully it was fixed instead!

Great, great repair job on the car! Looks better than it has since it rolled off the showroom floor I bet! Though interior still a bit tired, but not to bad really.

Then wrapped in green vinyl over the sparkling black paint. Now known as Green Mamba!
