"the HF crimper leaves little to be desired..... it is not as precise as you need."

OR

"the HF crimper leaves a little to be desired..... it is not as precise as you need."

There is a difference...

Ancor makes a very good ratcheting crimper, and I would add besides using good terminals, use marine grade pretinned wire (Ancor is good here, too). Basically, end of corrosion problems.

If you can get a new harness do it, it will save you the hassle of making one. On that note though, it seems that my stack of used harnesses is getting larger due to replacing them quite often now. Did a GTS last Sunday and the hidden corrosion was just crazy when you take a close look at it. Porsche is doing some new production on these (although I got the last late one) so more may be available. Get with Rog and see.

This was the second job I had to do on my GT way back. Common failure item. The loom can be remade by hand which is what I did. Time consuming. I just used standard auto rated wire with insulation and it's held up well so far.

Mine was like yours. A battery, alternator and cdi later all is good. I read about the 14 pin connector and did a quick check. I didn't check the whole harness. After I rebuilt the harness I also removed the 14 pin connector and hard wired it. Now the windows wind up and down quickly, the battery charges well and my fuel gauge reads full rather than 3/4. It also starts when hot much easier. I think this harness is a cure all. I would suggest most people are worried about the timing belt. If this harness has not been upgraded, just do it!

Agreed, but the weak link is usually the operator. Buying/using the wrong type of connector with the wrong type of crimper.

Some of the connections on the 928 set new standards for bad, the 14 pin, the pod, sheesh.

There is a difference...

funny what a difference ONE letter makes..

it would be the latter...

sorry for the confusion. my laptop keyboard is quirky.. coffee and keyboards evidently dont mix..

YES.... ANCHOR is the brand i was trying to think of.....supposedly the teeth from the HF are interchangeable, so you can get the anchor teeth nd install them in the HF crimper.

I disagree about the operator. the crimpers i am talking about cannot be "over or under" crimped... they have stops much like a pex ring crimper. once the stops meet that's it.

i have found that the hf does not fully crimp the barrel.. letting the wire pull out.

I have tried them with several different manufacturers connectors.

I have the HF 8 ton hydraulic crimper, but all the dies are wrong sized, and I haven't figured out which connectors to use with it, so not used yet. I just use the long handled "Ideal" type A or B crimp.
