speedo/odometer wires

Default speedo/odometer wires

hi all

in the spare wheel well of my 84 are 2 banks of wires a small one with 3 connectors and a large one with 4 conectors does anyone know which is the speedo and which one is for the odometer and if any of the wires are for anything else

The 4 connector wire is for the speedo. 2 of the 4 wires are the spedo circuit. The brown and green wires of the 4 connector are the connection from the speedo sender. An easy test is to hook an ohm meter to those two wires and roll the car a few inches. You will see the ohmmeter vary from low to infinite if the sender ios working. You can also check T1 and T2 on the electrical panel for the same thing.

The odometer is mechanically driven within the speedo - it does not receive a separate signal.

Is your odometer inoperative? If so, you should have mentioned it - we'd have told you about the drive gear within it that often fails.

The three wire connector on my 87 s4 auto is for the trans protection switch.
