928 air filter 101

I just sold a k/n filter to someone, his air filter (for the last year at least) was missing the filter part from the 'P' to middle 'O'. His car is an '83 5 speed that has AFM, (better than nothing)

My understanding is that the very early cars have the filter upside down (w the convex pointing down). Don't know the exact date/year of the change. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will chime in.

the reason for the hump points to the sky is twofold .
with the filter base further away from the intake port it will increase the size of the filtered air area , also with dirt entering the inlet air the ramps will trap more of the heavy particulates further from the center thus increasing the chances that the filter will stay cleaner in the center.
DONT follow the arrows as they can be marked either way as has been pointed out, just remember, Hump to the sky
