Default What will happen if...

I remove this unit, and just disconnect it?
Will I have a constant warning light?

Not sure what that is, but in my car the only things on the console next to the seats are a speaker control of some sort and the trunk release....

I don't know what year your car is, but I think the O2 sensor counter/reset is in that location on later cars.

You will have a much better chance of getting helpful info if you give more helpful info - model year, RoW/USA/etc., what the warning light says...

If that is the mileage counter for the oxygen sensor warning light, and if the oxygen sensor warning is what you are trying to turn off:

No one knew how long the first oxygen sensors would last, whether there would be any noticeable symptoms of failure, etc., etc. As a result, Porsche decided to implement a mileage-based warning to service the sensor. The warning has nothing to do with whether the sensor is working or not - it is purely mileage-based. If that is what you are dealing with, there will be no adverse results to disconnecting the switch unit and turning the light off.

Also, your thread title should really be indicative of thread content.

That is was my understanding as well but here's an interesting scenario:

My '82 blew all the accessory belts and the first light to come one was the OXS. I assumed it was caused by the lack of air pump belt but how was it sensed?

If your air pump was working, and then it wasn't, measured oxygen in the exhaust changes quite a bit.

It`s a 81 US model, and it`s the "counter" for the oxygen sensor, yes. I do not have the sensor, air pump or cat in the car, just wondered if I would have a warning light coming on if I just removed it- I havent tried yet, due to a ongoing project with changing the dash.

Cheers

That's what I figured but the statement by WallyP made me wonder.

Could the warning light be an OR of oxygen sensor and mileage counter?

According to the wiring diagrams and one of the docs (I don't remember which one - sorry) the oxygen sensor light is nothing but a mileage counter, not hooked to the sensor at all.

The only reason that I can think of for your situation is that all of the warning lights come on when the alternator quits with the engine running.
