Ahhhh...that's the part I was still trying to figure out. Simply starting in first wasn't explaining the rush in 1st and particularly 2nd. All makes sense now. Pretty cool for a 1980s auto. It was a cold day the last time I played with this feature, so the tires (worn) were a bit hard. Chirped the tires in 1st, and spun the right side going into 2nd...then backed off the gas. Pretty cool to find this potential lurking in the car.

Not specific to 1987, but a fun story.
From what I understand they did get a white 928, but the producer felt it did not show Tom Selleck well enough so the Ferrari was used. The white 928 that they acquired can be seen in many chase scenes from Magnum P.I.

Rob - those are the numbers I was looking for!
So I'm 1 of 2241/2238/436. Even better, sold at Vasek Polak Porsche

Thanks to everyone for their comments - I like the Tom Selleck story!

The early 87 have funny front "bumpers" on the US version. It was changed prior to the 88 model year.

That usually denotes an early 87 (bumperettes with holes in them as opposed to the ones with covers over the screws)... Could in theory be tied to the flip up wing and squirter 87's.. not sure on the vin breakout.. (my old 87 ..very late VIN had neither)

Want your windows to have the neat one-touch down feature that contemporary cars have? Buy the window relay from most late-model Volkswagens. Plugs right in and does exactly as advertised. The variable wiper relay from your local VW dealer works as well.
Any more detail on this? VW part number?

79 has also sport seats
54 has also sport shocks
25 also do not have sunroof
3 has also seat heaters
Mine is one of the 3...

Mine also lacks cruise control.

I love the early S4 for the analogue instrument cluster and the no-airbag wheel.

James,

You posted: "This is true for all years EXCEPT '94 and '95 where the lights come on when the hood is opened... PERIOD! If you have a '94 or a '95 and you open your hood and the light DOES NOT COME ON, then your light is burned out or your switch is not working."

That is not ALWAYS true. Some of us have installed an easy to use, inconspicuous rocker switch in series with the light, on the right front of the hood. Thus, if our light doesn't come on, it MAY be because we didn't push on that little rocker switch!! - HA, coudn't resist!!! (Andrew Olsen posted this 'upgrade' several years ago).

Cheers all,

Gary-

Or you can just re-route the wires in the window control module - achieves the same result at zero cost.
