Default Early Radio Details for 78-80

Okay so I know I have problems but as you are aware, I have been parts gathering for my 79. I believe I found myself an original radio but it has no *****. Now the chances of me finding the original 928 exclusive ***** is probably nonexistent.

For those still running an original early two shafts Bamberg:

Can someone compare the fader **** next your seat with the ***** on the radio? I am curious if the size is similar and if they are interchangeable. I am not worried about the speaker logo as that can be easily removed. Even if the shaft design is different I can probably work with them as a close replacement.

Thanks for any help. Please excuse my OCD

Guy, the answer is yes, go for it.
This will get you halfway there. The hard part are the bezels behind the *****.

I plan to offer both the ***** and bezels on my website at some point.

Excellent. When you say "bezels" are you referring to the secondary flat ***** that adjust tone etc?

I am fortunate enough to have the original radio trim bezel and the metal bracket that fits on the console to retain the radio.

Thanks!!

Yes.

What is the trim bezel and metal bracket? Not sure if I've seen that.

The trim bezel is the plastic bezel that surrounds the shafts and face. Part number 92864591300 or 92864591100.

The bracket doesn't seem to have a part number. It's a metal bracket that attaches to the lower central warning screws and fits in the recess above the clock and hazard ***** etc ( below the inner console bezel). The radio shafts fit thru two elongated holes.

On another note. Anyone have one of these? I need one badly

I might have one of those... I'll go look (will have to do some serious digging )

Could you snap a pic of the metal bracket, please?

Jim,

Thanks! Here is a bad picture of one of them that I have from a parts car. This one has been cut to accommodate a bigger radio.

I thought this was non original but when you look at the fit around the console etc, it's definitely stamped and not homemade

Well, I had fun on the treasure hunt! Found it in a big tupperware marked 928 Junk. Ha! That's why I keep most everything, including 928 junk.

PM me your address and I'll get it out to you.

FWIW, these aren't hard to find. Same connector that is used on later cars with amp to the right of the pax seat.

This looks non-factory. Certainly not OE.

But if someone had cut out the opening for DIN size, then went back to 2-post style... then they would go to an audio shop and find an aftermarket bracket to service the purpose. I have something like that on a car I'm working on... aftermarket, different design but same purpose.

Would be neat to know if this is a Porsche part. PET maybe, but not likely.

The Bluespot ***** are available - even on EBay - also Bluespot suppliers like SW Stereo should have them.

Roger,

928 ***** are unique in appearance. They match the dash *****.

Interesting. I have two of these. Both from 1980. So how would the radio affix in the opening without this. Did it just bolt to the inner console bezel?

And available as I said - they are not unique to just Porsche - also used on other German cars. I have bought them for my later Bluespot Bamberg QTS and earlier Bamberg radio's.

Why do you think they are unique?

There were at least five different radio options available for the 78/79 cars

I will see if I can get some pics. Blaupunkt will sell you the standard **** such as the ones found in BMW, Mercedes and even the 911. The 928 used a larger barrel shaped **** similar to the fader ****. It matches the dash ***** perfectly. When I called them. They had a listing for it but told me they were not available. If someone knows a trick here, I am all ears.

As far as the radio options in 78 and 79. It seems that most of them are region specific. This is the one I have.
