1986.5 which VIN do I use?
Hi, Looking for help as the car has a RoW vin on the wing and a US VIN on the sticker.
US Sticker VIN: WPOJB092XGS861719
Wing Stamped VIN: WPOZZZ92ZGS861719
I am in the rocess of importing it to Spain and wondered which VIN I should use?
Thanks in advance!
US Sticker VIN: WPOJB092XGS861719

If the car has a U.S. VIN on the sticker it was originally sold and operated in the U.S. I know literally nothing about importing cars out of the U.S. into Spain (or anywhere else) so I'd defer to Spain's rules for importation. Not sure whether it would make a difference but the country code for that VIN is 49 states' US market (CO2)
Just to be nit-picky- you were using a letter "O" in your VIN, above. VINs never use the letter "O", they always use a number "0". I'm pointing it out only because transcription errors on stuff like importation and registration documents can make for huge headaches. Speeling matters.

Can you tell from the VIN the month of manufacture?
The confusing thing will be the stamped on VIN doesnt match the sticker so the spanish authorities will be confused lol. Why dos it have the RoW VIN stamped and only a sticker for the US market? Was this part of the export process from the factory to the dealers in the US?

Not exactly sure on the build date- 86.5 #1633 was built 01/86, and #1923 was built in 02/86. So #1719 is one or the other. If you've just bought it the seller should have pic(s) of the VIN sticker in the door jamb.

I thought the 86.5s were from mid 86 onwards .VINS post 1000 are all 86.5 but I didnt think they were available until june 86 (the .5 made me think that)...? Would be interested in any other 86.5 manufacture or indeed first registration dates. That is what I really need to find out. On the US title it doesnt say first registered...Any way I could find out that info?

Porsche built a lot of 928s in 1986, 2887 for the US/Canada market, and 1911 for the ROW market - nearly 4800 cars. Assuming they started in 08/85 and finished in 07/86, that works out to 400 cars/month. The lowest serial 86.5 I know of is #1003, build date on the sticker is 09/85. There are 'only' 877 US market 1986.0 cars (Serial #s 0061 to 0937), so I think it makes sense that all of the August and September '85 production was US market cars, and then they started making 86.5s starting roughly in September. Remember that all ROW '86s are actually 86.5 spec.
The data points I added above on 86.5 build dates are me looking at VIN sticker pictures on the Bring a Trailer auctions of 86.5s where the seller was nice enough to include one. I think the ones I quoted most closely bracket your car, but I may have missed one. If your car has the warranty book in the glovebox, the selling dealer should have entered a sale date on page 2 or 3 of the book, and you'd think that the 1st registration date would have been within a few days of the sale. Alternatively, buy a CARFAX report for your VIN, that might (should?) show the first registration date. Alternative #2, call a Porsche dealership and ask them to look up the sale/registration date of the car using the VIN. They might be willing to help. Might.
