Thank you Rob! Couple new guy questions...
My car has the "platinum" colored manhole wheels that I understand came with Competition Group, yet the vin does not specify Comp Group. Did it have a code of its' own?
It also has both L and R elec comfort seats yet no code is specified for Left?
Does anyone know exactly was included in Comp Group?
What does 40% refer to on the LSD?
Thank you for any light you can shed!

1. The platinum manhole wheels had their own option code, M347. At least in the US market the first time they were available was in 1985, so they wouldn't be original to the car.
2. I don't have an answer for why the driver's comfort seat is not listed.
3. The contents of the competition or sport group 1 have been controversial for some time. For the '81-'82 US market, the Competition group was the way to get the S spoilers front and rear, it was a $1900 option and didn't include anything else. I471 is also called out on 5 '87-88 cars, some US and some ROW, I have no idea what it meant in that context.
4. The 40% limited slip diff means that it can deliver a max of 40% more torque to one axle than the other. Highly unlikely that a 39 year old limited slip will still lock to that degree.

Just out of curiosity, if you have access to the VIN tag on the door jamb, can you report on the date of manufacture? I own PS8200084, built 08/02, and I have PS820108 here, built 12/92. 24 cars apart, 4 months apart. It was slowwwwww at Porsche in '92.....

Another M740 car, I see.

I471 means integrated rear spoiler for the 1987/88 S4s.
These cars had the S rear spoiler instead of the regular wing.

Slow indeed, but it fits the sequence of the cars you are referencing at 9/92. No wonder they could send them through the finishing process three times to perfect the paint and add exclusive options to create the "I740 - Exhibition" cars.

This car has been popping up for some time as "For Sale". Now it is wrapped in a flat grey (over polar silver)... I have to wonder why???

Thank you. Very cool that they would include Tourist delivery as an option. I must have 4 BQA 80s in my spares pile! I'll send you a picture if I get to see it.

1989 S4 automatic
C08 - Japanese market (left-hand drive)

M28.42 - engine serial # range 81K 05001>10000
A28.16 - transmission serial # range A 2816 1K 00001>10000 (no LSD)

M462 - Sekuriflex windshield
I567 - Windshield tinted, upper part

For some reason the database often lists very few options for these later Japanese market cars, not sure why.

GTE- Is it live, or is it Memorex? I have a spare IQR-88 and amp should you ever buy this car and the radio is missing.
