Why "Her"

I don't look upon my cars as mistresses to be pampered or children to be babied. They're tools to be used and partners for adventures. As such, they're given good treatment, but they're expected to pull their weight and perform as needed.
All my P-Cars have (or had) male names: Moby, Jake, Finn, and Stitch.

My wife started refering to my car as "the lady in red". Since then I've started refering to "her" as Princess. It's said sarcastically with a loving under tone:/

1.) "car" can be masculine or neuter in German (not feminine like in French)
2.) "girl" is grammatically speaking neuter in German (i.e. "it" and not he or she.)
As a (native) English speaker, I actually find it strange to refere to cars as "she." For boats though, strangely enough, it sounds normal to me.

I recently spent almost $1500 in parts from Roger and others to keep her going the way I want to. As someone has as their signature (don't remember who), 'she's like an expensive ***** and hopefully will give him the ride of his life one day...." Ditto!

Every car I've owned had it's own personality, some where more reliable than others and required very little attention - these cars did not have female names. The 928 S4 on the other hand seems to be more like a high maintenance supermodel, I love her but she craves attention and care but gives me great pleasure when I take her on epic drives. I also own a 911 3.2 Carrera which I call "the mistress" dressed in Glacier Blue.............Ok, I need help. LOL

She for cars comes from boats and ships. In european languages items have grammatical gender like he or she instead of it. The word "ship" is feminine. At one time all ships were christened dedicating them to a goddess for protection and given a female name. This gender association has carried over to cars. The word "car" is feminine in French.
It's Yeti, because:
- It's white and dark red inside (white\burgundy)
- It has bad mood
- It has spend most of its life so far into the Alps
- and it screams loud when you don't expect it, thanks to the f.... original alarm.
The previous one was simply: the CS.
