If you're prepared to pay $500, then just sit tight. There's a pretty high chance he'll come back to you.. but be aware that you're likely still buying a car for north of $6k, and think carefully about how much running, assembled, original paint-wearing 928 you can get for that same $6k.
This kind of project only makes sense if you're buying it to scratch a "I gotta work on a car a *lot* itch". Your reward is the time wrenching on the car; if you prefer driving 928's to working on them, this probably isn't the project for you![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Heed the words of "Tailpipe" above - he's "saved" a lot of bottom-feeder 928's and knows exactly what you're in for. If the paints not original (which apparently it isn't - see Emeralds post above), its likely already a parts car.. handily disassembled and ready to put up on ebay as you take pics.

That's the problem just because there is the name Porsche on the back people think they are worth the same as gold better to take your loss make abit of money and let the car move to someone that will enjoy it.

I agree, at first I thought rebuilt engine wheeee! But it could be a grenade after 20 hours of assembly.
I agree on the 500 mark,
But I am somewhat emotional and would pay 750 -1000 as I could rationalize using the tires if I ever get my OB going.
Why did I buy mc hammers old 4 SPd ?

Is true, even if they were bagged and stored in the perfect humidity, they are rubber?
I think the bus barn at pier 39 needs used tires and I have heard of a 928 body used as a small camp trailer.
Always looking for the silver lining,
And a 9ers win today.

Disclaimer - Just my opinion, worth what you paid for it, maybe not even that much.
Find a different car.
The owner has too much invested, both emotionally and financially to make this a good deal.
He can't get his head around the fact that the money he has into the car has zero influence on it's current value.
Right now, it's a parts car or salvage.
The amount of time, money and effort that it will take to get it back on the road mean it's current value is near nothing ($500 is reasonable).
You may be able to convince him of this and get the car for a fair price. But will he then care enough to make sure you get all the parts he has stashed around the garage and house and who knows where else?
The wrong missing parts can easily drive the cost up by a huge amount.
There are lots better out there.
