bump for more insight. with pictures. I also have the same issue of heat coming from below. It was not the TT foam or the trans mounts. It was this..

with the bell housing removed you can see the firewall heat shield has separated from the beginning of the tunnel, revealing an unprotected gap. The heat shield is a rubber backed foil type, you can see remnants of the glue where it pulled away.
