Thanks, Rob, for the report. Looks pretty good from here also. Be sure to push the upper insert all the way to the top when you are installing it. I found that I could not match both the color and the texture with the leather, so I had to go with just matching the color. It is pretty smooth, but for as little of it that shows I found that the best match. I am anxious to see how the final installation goes. Thanks again.

A little duplication to keep pics in one thread:
Test fitted Jerry Feather's flush console:

The e3io fits perfectly in the space, its upper edge clears the bottom-most travel of the comb flap HVAC diaphragm pod perfectly:

Clearance on the HVAC head side connector is extremely close on the welded plate that supports the knee bolster, but it fits too. (The A/C button harness will need a lengthening pigtail, not the end of the world...)

One additional datapoint, because of the proximity of the HVAC connector pins to the driver's side of the console, Jerry provides a pigtail of wires soldered directly to the pins:
![](https://webfiles.uci.edu/redwards/public/Jerry%20flush%20console%20HVAC%20head%20connector%20proximity%20to%20driver%27s%20side%20pigtails%203-25-15.jpg)
To avoid hacking the factory harness, I took a guess in PET on the proper pins to terminate the pigtail and fit into the bushes in the 5- pin connector. Guessed right:

Brief update- the devil's in the details, I keep moving the goalposts on what I want to include during the install- what should have been a simple install led to a gutting of the interior and un-PO'ing most of the previous PO mods.

Anyway, have gotten things mostly back together and am test-fitting all the stuff that has to fit in the glovebox - MTX-L WB02 to feed the sharktuner, the ST2, a USB-serial adapter to connect the WBO2 to the PC, and a 4-gang USB hub designed for automotive use. All of which required some additional ventilation:

Also trimmed and cleaned up the HVAC fan control pigtail so it's plug n play into the factory harness:

Too many posts ago to remember ... why did you make the area surrounding the shifter flush with the console edges instead of recessed a little like OEM? Was it a design preference or required to get around something under there?

If you make the upper insert flush with the surface of the console, that buys you enough depth to mount a 6.75" deep double DIN head unit. If you then make the lower insert flush so that it 'looks' right, that buys you 3.75" from the insert to the transmission tunnel for mounting analog gauges.
So it's mostly about the space, but it's also a little more modern look. Emphasis on 'little'- My goal for this installation is for no one who doesn't own a 928 to know that it's been modified.

T- It's not for a CD/DVD player, it's for a PC running Win 8.1 so I can run a ST2, GPS, virtual gauges in Logworks, surf Rennlist, etc.

I designed this Flush Center Console Conversion, so I suppose this question is more directed to me. The Conversion was inspired by the one Kieth Widom did and to which I was directed by Nicole some time ago. That's the way he did it and that's the way it made sense for me to do it also. I guess my design objective was to make the whole thing flush rather than half flush. I suppose I could make an analogy about half flushing you toilet, but I'll avoid that.

Nothing like Sharktoberfest to get me off the couch and finish something.

Rob -- That looks very nice. It looks like it could have been done by the factory. If not for the double-DIN touchscreen, no one who isn't familiar with 928s could tell you'd changed anything. Well done!

Just needs a 2 button touch pad integrated behind the shifter and it's all good.
I have been playing with a Leo Bodnar hatswitch (8-way joystick that 'clicks' by pushing down) that I was going to top with a 928 HVAC **** to use as a built-in mouse, but making the shaft adapter is above my pay grade....
