Default How to dismantle 928 mirror

Hello,

MOT due tomorrow and my electric mirror doesn't work!
I think the gears have become disengaged.
I've got the mirror off the car and I've dismantled the glass from the "covering frame" but I can't work out how to remove the swiveling plate from the main body and to get at the motors.
On the rear of the assembly there are three screws - but they are inserted from the other side and therefore not accessible.
Behind the swiveling plate is a rubber membrane to keep out water. I don't want to tear or cut this membrane to get to the screws.

I've tried manipulating the swiveling plate to see if the gears will re-engage. The motor operates when I use the adjustment switch.

I've included pics. I can't tell if these are original to my car - but my car is a 1985 S2 Auto (British RHD) 4.7 L

Has anyone managed to dismantle these types of mirrors - is it possible without wrecking them? Your advice appreciated.... thanks in advance.

I think your only choice is to replace the whole thing.

Several models use the same flag mirrors, replace guts, play with old parts at leisure.

The inside of yours does not look much like the inside of the ones I have. I have no clue why that is; so I don't think I can help.

Hi guys BRILLIANT....I have spent all day on my mirrors and you have the solution...I think...

how do you get the motors out of the housing?? On the underside, there are obviously 2 screws. There seems to be a rubber boot/gater that is surrounding the mechanism. But there seems no obvious (to an idiot like me) as to how to remove the motor. It sits behind the silver plate.... I am at my wits end....

So do I have to drill out the rivets???
