Just one opinion ... mid-teens pretty much tops out the value for an ordinary S4. Very special or very low miles might reach $20k.

I like using this valuation tool from Hagerty's...a daily driver, condition 4 valued at about $9K.

Type in "Porsche 928" on ebay, enter the years 1987-1991, auto, then click onto "Completed Listings". It's a good barometer on what S4's have & have not sold for recently in the worlds largest car market. T

Yeah, the more I think about it the less I have interest in dealing with the seller. He said he had pricing guidelines to justify / give a basis for his price, I asked for them and got back NADA High Retail #'s and something from Hagerty that was a far cry from the 15,900 referenced above. Like I said before he's a nice enough fellow but in the end he's still a kid selling his dad's car so he can buy a boat. His lack of any real Porsche knowledge (early in the initial phone conversation he said it was taken to their independent mechanic every 2 months, I simply said "Really") not to mention mechanical smarts isn't going to bode well if a P-Car fan comes looking. Who knows, it could already be sold. Happy Thanksgiving guys......

Freaking could have read my mind on each and every one of these points! EXACTLY the way I feel about 928's!!! Kudos! Follow the info below and be happy!

89 cars are worth a little more than the 87-88 cars IMO, people like the digital dash and the gear radios on the rear.
Honestly the main things on buying a 928 is very very good paint (original preferably) and very very good interior and no accident history. All the mechanicals can be dealt with and fixed. As far as suspension work goes, I don't think many people change suspension bushings on their 928, they are very expensive, usually they just change the shocks. If shocks are original you may want to change them. Timing belt needs to be done every ~50,000 miles or every 5 years, whichever comes first.
Take the advice above, only a 928 experienced mechanic should deal with these cars. Stay away from other mechanics, even if they have worked on a million VWs, 356s, 911s, caymans, boxsters, cayennes, panameras, etc...

Not that many low mileage nice cars out there, but do you like this one or not? If the attraction is luke warm, then don't waste any more time.

If I liked the car, I would leave the seller my contact info and tell him I am a cash buyer, and to contact me when he is ready to sell.

It isn't likely to sell for more, but it may sell cheaply to however is around when the seller figures this out.

The 89 auto trans is best-of-lot, esp. if it has mechanical LSD.
It has a better final drive gear ratio that can definitely be noticed when accelerating.
It is a year before the LSD was replaced with the PSD system.
