Angry Well?

Jessa,
About that clicking?
Did you isolate the noise yet?
This may, or, may not apply:
I noticed my wife's Montero was due for a belt change about two weeks ago.
There was a clicking I could not isolate sounded like it came from valve covers, A/C clutch, Pwr. steering pump, various heat shields from plug guards back thru the exhaust/pan shields....state of exasperation.
I used a stetoscope but the rotational sound didn't seem to come from any particular part of the Montero.
Anyhow, changed the timing belt, water pump, flushed engine coolant, and all accessory belts.
Rotational clicking remained...
Two days later I changed the belt on Pattycakes - have to order new H2O pump and go back in later-, flushed and changed glycol.
Dolt that I am, I just could not believe the J.Kemph tool. Belt seemed to loose. So I did what a dolt would do, right?
Yep! I gave the adjuster another 3/4's of a turn. Was that Rhen calling me an Eeeadeeeeott?
Buttoned everything up and away I went......
I now have a metallic, rotational, clicking almost verging on a squeal.
Remenicent of the Montero.
Like I said, may not apply to you but check it out.
No need to remind me to:
1). Believe the tool.
2). Rebuild the tensioner.
3). Have new water pump on hand.

I have used the Kemp on my 86.5 and even tested it against the Porsche tool on an engine I am building. The Kemp tool reads 5.0 in the middle of the window as advertised. Trust the tool!

John, not sure if you found your noise on the 928, but after removing my right belt cover for it's first belt adjust. I had the same sound, I shut it down right away pulled the cover, looked everything over. Did'nt see anything wrong so I buttoned it back up and the sound was gone.

I think when I put the cover back on the first time it was not sitting right and was rubbing on something. I looked, but could not tell what. All is well for the last few thousand mile.

Just a thought

Max,
Pretty sure the lip lined up on the slot -both sides- but it won't hurt to look at first light.
Thanks for the suggestion.
