Default Pkensioner...have a look before I pull the pin

Finally got the Pkensioner and belt installed. Please have a look at my photos for any errors before I pull the pin.
Thanks
John

Did you put a washer behind the crank gear?

Great. I forgot on mine, but caught it before I got much further. Taking pictures is a great idea.

What is the round plate on the cam gears with the three bolts through it? I didn't have that plate on mine.

That is part of the 32v PK timing tool. It is removed once the cam gears are properly set

the plates are used to check timing.

if the oil pump gear was replaced was the nut installed with Loctite and torqued?

install the damper temporary and ensure crank is in position......from the cam gear pics it should be at 45 BTDC

pull the pin and spin then check the extension of the tensioner. all good spin the engine twice then recheck timing; all good spin twice more and rerecheck

What Malcolm said. Remember, it's not like it's a grenade. If you pull the pin, it's not the end of the world. You can lever it back into place using the allen key hole in the pulley and re-install the pin if needed.

Pulled the pin, and have rotated the engine about 6 or 7 full turns. Piston measures 6.7mm (yeah!!!) and I'm showing about 5degrees retarded on the passenger side, and 2degrees retarded on the drivers side. Time to set them to zero!

thanks for the help

Put the pin in a safe place. Makes it easy to lock the tensioner back in the compressed position if you need to do future work. No need to hunt around for a suitable wire.

Hopefully you put assembly lube and or anti-seize on all the shafts for the gears. They're all keyed and torqued in so they won't slip. However, it makes taking them off much easier and way less frustrating if you ever need to do engine work there again. Corrosion will eventually form and it will suck.

If not, everything's buttoned so don't worry about it since you'll probably not going to work on the front end again in terms of taking off the gears as they look new, except that oil pump gear.
