Default '88 Track Car FS - $6000 - Houston

I picked up this track car locally this summer and have decided I don’t have the spare time to play with it, so putting it up for sale.

This car is not 100% ready for the track but it’s a good start for someone looking for an automatic track car. It was built by a company called Fastlane in Houston. It runs good and drives and shifts normally. It has $4800 worth of 928 Motorsports performance parts detailed below. The silver paint is original and pretty bad in a few places, especially the rear bumper, but from a distance it looks decent. The Interior is mostly still in the car, with just the rear seats removed to make room for the roll bar and a few pieces of carpet removed. The car had track seats in it, but they were removed by the previous owner, and the original seats were set in the car. The mounting rails have been cut out, so the seats are not bolted down, so this car can only be driven at low speeds right now and is definitely not street legal. There are also no seat belts currently installed.

The engine looks original and has not had a top end refresh. The previous owner had the car since the early 90’s and said the TB was last done at about 70k. The odometer now shows 100k and is not turning. I have reason to believe the odometer recently failed but don’t know for sure.

I was told the radiator is from a Mustang Cobra. There are 4 electric fans total, 2 on the radiator, one on an engine oil cooler, and one on a tranny fluid cooler. Two switches on the dash control the fans. AC head unit is still in the dash, but compressor, lines and rear AC have been removed.

There is a custom stainless exhaust, dual all the way back to a single muffler. No X, no cats, no resonators, so it has a mean growl.

It has track tires on it with good tread. Wheels are off Carl’s Pike’s Peak Car with no center caps. Fender edges have been cut off not rolled.

Sunroof and windows work. Brakes do not work well, not sure what’s going on, haven’t had time to look at them yet.

I have clear title in my name, ready to be signed over to the next owner.

I have invoices for the following Performance parts from 928 Motorsports:

June 2009 Invoice
Hypercoil & Koni Suspension Kit 600/400 1,569.00
Ultimate Front Sway Bar Kit 795.00
Rear Sway Bar Mounts with Droplinks 166.00
Front Lower Frame Brace 229.00
Sport Suspension Brace Polished 165.00
Chin Protection Plates S4 27.50

Jul 2009 Invoice
Front Shock Tops 138.00
Steel Racing Lug Nuts 48.00
Solid Alloy Motor Mounts (pair) 114.00
Brake Pads Deluxe Front 96.00
Cryogenic Brake Rotors Front Pair 478.00

Feb 2010 Invoice
Race Roll Bar 575.00
Race Wing 250.00
Stainless Brake Lines 83.5-95 149.00

Total 4799.50

Here’s a video walk through.

And some pics of the car and its performance parts. I would have to say it looks better in the pics than in person just to be completely honest. I have not had much time to do any cleaning on the car.

I'll try to add more exterior shots soon, but the video shows the exterior pretty well.

FYI. If the car stays in TX, you do NOT need an inspection to register. Simply use the Antique vehicle plate registration good for 5 years.

Aside from the brakes and seat mounting, what would be necessary to get the car modestly ready for highway use?

All lights working?
Wipers?
Steering?
Horn?
Radio?
A/C bits present, less pump(working or not)?
Do you have A/C pump?

For what its worth, the "today's cost" of many of those upgrades from Carl are a good bit more. GLWS

doc,

The car is old enough that in TX you would only need a $14 safety inspection anyway, or at least it will be old enough in a couple of months (24 yrs)

To put this car on the highway, you would need to weld in some seat mounts, or install custom seats. Install seat belts (I have the originals, or you could go with something custom). Get lights, wipers, and other important electrical stuff working. Switch back to rubber motor mounts (optional). Install street tires.

I'm selling the car as it sits as a track car, without some of the parts that came out of it, like the AC compressor, back seats, rear AC, etc... but if someone wants to purchase the car with the intent of putting it back on the road, I do have these parts and could include them for the right price.
