Default Center console removal

I am trying to remove the center console and dash to get the refurbished. I have removed all the screws and bolts. I am concerned with removal of the ac an temperature control unit. I am unsure how to remove the sliding *****. The do not seem to just pop off. I have removed the vents disconnected the clock and hazard I need to complete the radio and temperature control unit. Any halp is greatly appreciated.

DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY MANEUVER TO PULL THE SLIDING ***** OUT OR OFF !
To remove the HVAC control unit you remove the top vent louver, gently lift up and tool out the plastic 'H' piece, unscrew the unit, remove the L carpet panel and detach the harnesses (one for fan - one for control unit), finesse the unit out. See Dwayne's write up for the description and pics.
Best Wishes.

Thanks I did not attempt to remove them. I look behind the console and it seemed everything was Connected. I will review the write up.

Yes, he is correct on this. The thing 'wants' to break. I hold my breath every time I have to remove the piece.

I end up fixing mine every time I remove it.
At least it is a clean break and always in the same place.

Well I removed the center console and yes even with caution I broke the H in half. Now time to clean up and remove the pod and dash. I am restoring the entire inside. A bit more work than I ever imagined but I will know this car and every bolt on it when I am done.

Effort well spent. Replace all bulbs in pod and vacuum actuator diaphragms and other fiddlies while in there, if you have not done so already. It pays to be petite while doing these repairs, I am not and the bodily contortions needed to do this made me suffer!

Just FYI... Roger sell new H piece cheaper than I see used sell on Ebay. IIRC they are in the $15-20 range.

I delay the H install for a few days after everything else is back in, just to make sure things are working.

Larry - just saw a pic of your car in another thread. You have not posted for awhile. How is your car coming along? Can you post pictures? It looks very similar to mine, my vin is 834, built in May 78
