John, the emerg/park brake used to be one of my culprits but it now works as designed.

I guess I'm just going to have to open up that pod and replace all the lights in order to discover the source of the "!". The odometer just died also, so I guess it's going to be an adventure in there now, anyway.

Apparently it's a "b-list" item because the "a-list" ones will not reset with the "!" button, and mine does. The belt tension tests nominal, so it's not likely a critical issue........... just a PITA!

Note the speedo tops out at 85, which just gets you into 3rd gear :-). My 1980 speedo goes to 170 which would require 6th gear! To drift slightly OT, anyone know why they bothered with an 85mph speedo? I seem to recall some regulation on this in the early 80s.

I'm sure you can swap them. In any case that cluster could be a steal.

I ordered the odometer gear from http://www.odometergears.com/ and expect that the repair should be pretty straight forward. I'd like to replace some of the light bulbs in the pod with LED's but I'm not sure how that will fly.

I'd sure like to just drive the thing for the summer and then dick with it in the winter, like one is SUPPOSED to do with a hobby car!!

Brian,

I don't know if you saw this from a recent thread, but it is the ultimate write-up on how to do the LED upgrade. It's now on my to-do list!

Marc, thanks.........!! That's 1/2 the project right there!

Now, what about LED replacements for the IDIOT LIGHT bulbs?? I think that http://normanlamps.com/ migh be the source if I could identify the 2 different lamp-base types.

Get a good flashlight, and put the car into a dimly-lit area.
Turn the ignition switch on.
Using the flashlight on the instrument panel will let you find any warning logos that are not illuminated.

How many of each of the 2 types of bulbs are there in the pod?
