Default Repair or replace

On the way to New Orleans, my windshield got hit with a rock, and it left a mark like a bee/bee shot. Should I have it repaired or replace the windshield?

An original Porsche windshield with antenna in Austin for sale for $750 and that includes shipping.
Let me know and I will put you in touch with the seller.

Are they interchangeable within group years?

I've been looking for one for my early '86. Almost bought one from a parted '87 but it broke upon removal...

I've had a three repairs done on various cars over the years, and on every single occasion they ended up progressing to a crack and I had to get the screen replaced. YMMV.

I've never bothered with repairs since as I think the progression of damage is inevitable, considering the thermal and physical shock and stress that a screen is subjected to.

My 87 had the antenna, 89 is just plain glass. If I need to have it replaced Roger, do you have some one in the area by your shop?

thanks,
joe

Windshield repair epoxys have come a long way...... I had the same thing happen to me on my DD and after they fixed it you could not tell it was ever broken....
The key is if you decide to get it repaired do it very soon,... If you wait and dirt gets into the cracks, the repair will not look as well.

+1 any repair attempt needs to be done ASAP.

Its been a long time, but most of the guys doing the repair used to guarantee their work, no charge if it spreads, goes bad within some time range.

FWIW,

Just tried to have my glass replaced by Safelite and they could not complete the replacement. They tried to order 3 different pieces of glass and got the glass right on the 3rd attempt.

They called me back on the 3rd attempt and couldn't replace the window molding in the event that they bent it.

Took it to Kevin who has some glass in stock, having some other work done anyway so it was a no brainer at that point.

Safelite couldn't even replace mine when I called them last year. Agent tried to locate glass but couldn't.

As an aside, it's almost impossible to find original antenna glass. Still trying to source one. Not a high priority but if one pops up for a good price I'd take it.

Agree with the above,

Plan on a replacement.

My insurance co offered a free repair vs. replacing w/deductible, figured it was worth a shot. It was not very noticeable after the work, but a subsequent crack appeared elsewhere- which made me wonder whether it was from the repair process and initially unnoticed. Ended up sourcing windshield a couple months ago via the glass/classics specialist in, I think, Michigan discussed in older posts here. TOok several weeks to arrive, but was correct hue and with antennae.
